Revised RPI Car Media Center

After this last trip back home I have come up with a Revised RPI Car Media Center. After I had issues with the battery charger not charging I decided to just ditch it, the battery has a loose connection for charging you have to force is downwards to get it to work. This simplified the design a lot. Below is a diagram of the new connections.

Update on RPI Car Media Center

Less than perfect success on the RPi Car media center. We ran into a snag within the first 30 minutes with the cell phone recharging battery died. After further playing with the battery the charging connection seems really finicky. The charging USB cable has to be connected at a very specific angle to actually recharge the battery. If the battery isn’t charging then the system stops working once the battery is drained. I had changed the configuration as well to have the hard drive powered off the battery to keep it running when the car turned off. This of course drained the battery even faster.

RPi XBMC Car Media Player

Ever since I purchased a Raspberry Pi I have tried to figure out what to do with it. Lately I have been trying to figure out how to make my kids in car DVD players work without forcing me to turn around in the car to change the DVD. I started a project to use a raspberry pi to create a RPi XBMC car media player.
